Glenroy RSL History
Established 1951-1952
It was due to the great efforts of the late Clarrie Strachan that The Glenroy RSL was formed in 1951-1952. Clarrie was a President -Secretary all in one for a period from which his office was the longue room of his home in Cromwell Street.
Our first Club Room was a hayloft in a large shed at the rear of Dr.O’Loughlin’s home, on the corner of Clovelly and Belair Avenue.
Friday night was the normal meeting night and to reach the loft was a precarious climb up a very steep ladder. When you stepped off the ladder there was always face of Clarrie sitting at his small table beckoning you to buy a raffle ticket or donate to the Building Fund!
How things have changed when looking at the new state of art RSL Complex updated in 2002 which provides great facilities and entertainment.
Over the past few years the Club has achieved a status of being one of the top RSL Clubs in Victoria.
One thing hasn’t changed over the years is Glenroy RSL’s commitment and dedication to serving veterans and their families as well as the community.
